Opening ceremony
Dear friends and guests, we are glad that you are here with us. Welcome to the opening ceremony of our film festival with the unusual name Karlovy Žižkov 2016/2017! We are excited to be following all the many creative groups as they film original works in a variety of genres. Even now, we are terrible curious about the results of their work, but we are going to have to wait another 10 months... We wish everyone much success in the coming school year, a lot of patients and enjoyment during team work, and above all an endless number of beautiful experiences.

2016 St. Nicholas surprise
On Monday, 5 December, all the kids were eagerly awaiting the arrival of St. Nicholas. No, he didn’t come in person – he sent an angel as his representative. And everybody who came to school that morning could look forward to two surprises. At the front door, they were greeted by a devilish welcome, complete with a fire and warm bread, and waiting for them inside was a gentle angel who brushed way everyone’s troubles, so that their new year would be that much lighter…

Making things with clay
We held our traditional pre-Christmas clay workshop, led by Mrs. Šimková. Working in a pleasant atmosphere, everybody created something for themselves and their loved ones. Everyone did a great job, especially Paulinka, Editka and Davídek, who did some great creative work with their mothers. Soon enough, the table was full of little angels. Bells, trees, and candles. It was a great afternoon. Thank you.

Nominations for the 2017 APLAUS Awards
Every year on 2 April, we celebrate World Autism Awareness Day and support the Autism Awareness campaign. On this occasion, the National Institute for Autism presents the APLAUS Awards in the categories of institution and individual with autism spectrum disorder. And a mother of one of our pupils nominated Zahrádka Primary School for the first of these awards.
The awards ceremony was held on 3 April 2017 in the atrium of the Czech Parliament. Since the nomination was for the entire time, the event was attended by representatives from the school and the Zahrada Integration Center – director Dagmar Rosecká and special education teachers Tereza Šafránková and Marie Širůčková were accompanied by Gabriela Šantinová, Jan Kroupa, and Hana Kubíková.
Thank you for the nomination. We truly appreciate it!PICTURES
Opening of the exhibition Light of My Life, 26. 4. 2017
The Light of My Life
26 April 2017This year, we and our pupils once again decorated candles in art class for the opening of the exhibition The Light of My Life. The exhibition shows the best photographs by patients from the children’s cancer ward at Motol Hospital. This interesting activity is organized by the Interactive Home Club, and its long-standing patron is the photographer Jindřich Štreit. This year, the opening reception was held at the palatial PRECIOSA flagship store on Rytířská Street in Prague 1. Our candles were lit with the three colors of the traditional “ritual of light,” all visitors could take one home with them.

Traffic school
Dear friends, from the sounds of sirens and flashing lights on top of the police car, you have almost certainly realized that the situation is serious – but we hope that it is not critical. At some point, every one of us becomes a traffic participant. We can debate this fact, we can disagree with it, but it doesn’t matter. There’s little we can do about it. We should be prepared for these situations, and so we have put together a little traffic practice course for today, and we are happy to welcome special guests from the city police, who have organized the event for us. Let’s hope that it won’t rain, since our traffic course isn’t rainproof.
So what can you look forward to? You will all go through the traffic training course by classroom in the predetermined order. From the start, you will follow the traffic signs around the building, through the gate, onto the sidewalk, and through the gate back into the garden. Each classroom will receive on driving license symbolized by this bank note – a real 5,000-crown note. The money is real play money. During your journey along the traffic course, you will pass several stations where you will have to fulfill various tasks such as answering questions and so on. At each station, a piece will be torn off your driving license (i.e., the bank note). The fewer pieces are torn off, the better for you. The winner is the team with the biggest piece of the driving license, which we will measure. And as you can see, we all have the same measuring stick. But even if you don’t make any mistakes, you will still have a piece torn off, because otherwise everybody would win, and we don’t have that many prizes. If there any at all…
Of course, you will have to follow all the traffic rules – yielding when required, signaling your turns, observing the speed limit, and not tailgating. If you catch up with another class at one of the stations, please wait until the other team has left the station. I hope that you all brushed your teeth in the morning – there will be a breathalyzer.
One more small note: Right after the start, our colleague Petra will be waiting for you with a fun surprise. So please praise her, so that she will have a good time, too. Thank you.
Classes that have already returned from their trip or that are waiting to start can pass the time by creating a collage that they can take home as a memento.
Should you make a mistake or just simply lose a shoe, you can ask the police officer to help you fix it.
Once everybody is back, we will check out a police car, take a group photo, and evaluate our trips.
Wishing you all an uneventful ride and no accidents!

Garden party 7 June 2017 and celebration of our school’s 20th anniversary
This year’s garden party was an exceptionally great success. Even the unpredictable weather cooperated in the end, so we could properly celebrate our school’s twentieth birthday. In the beginning, the guests were welcomed by our director, Mrs. Dagmar Rosecká, who briefly recalled the time of the school’s founding and wished us all the best for the coming school years.
And then the main program began – a fashion show of historical clothing made by Klára Fischerová, the mother of our one of our former pupils. A fanfare sounded, the door to the yurt opened, and out came a whole gaggle of majestic princesses, noble princes, suave musketeers, and graceful pages... in a word, beautiful! The children showed off clothing from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo eras, each one a finely detailed original.Dancing and listening enjoyment was provided by the Jazz Elements. The entire afternoon was colorful, and everyone had a good time (there were workshops for children, a photo studio, interactive board games, a cloudless sky, good things to eat, and time and space to just enjoy the moment...). Thank you all who came to our party. You made the atmosphere truly excellent!

End of the school year, or: 2016/2017 film festival
Official ending of the 2016/2017 school year
On Friday 30 June 2017, we gathered in the morning in order to say good-bye to the school year and to conclude the “Karlovy Žižkov” film festival that we started in September.
Although it was a low-key event, we welcomed a whole range of famous actors, including those who for various reasons seem to be hard to reach. Appearing on the red carpet were stars such as Meryl Streep (Mirka Tupá), Kate Winslet (Míša Fučíková), Josef Kemr (Ondřej Novák), Audrey Hepburn (Běla Bédi), Claudia Cardinal (Lenka Komendová), Louis de Funés (Tereza Šafránková), Barbara Streisand (Jana Trojánková), and Hello Kitty (Kateřina Želinová). They all gave a short speech, received awards for their teams from the festival jury, and then greeted all the participants, shaking their hands and presenting small gifts. The event also included a farewell to the departing Bára and two of our colleagues from the Zahrada Integration Center – Alenka Freundová and Kateřina Želinová. Everybody enjoyed the buffet, the beautiful weather, and the positive mood. In the name of the festival jury, we would like to thank everyone who came and shared in the day’s outstanding atmosphere.
